Welcome back to the we.digitize blog! Here we regularly inform you about current developments and provide insights into exciting topics relating to our company and the industry. In today's blog post, we take a look at how to promote company growth and which factors play an important role in this.
The importance of growth in the digital world
Trying to appeal to everyone with your product carries the risk of getting lost in the crowd. A targeted approach, on the other hand, creates trust and strengthens loyalty to the brand. In order to develop an effective target group strategy, you should first be clear about exactly what your idea is and how you want to market it. With this clear goal, you can start marketing. There are valuable tools at your disposal, such as analyzing data in the field of digital media. This provides you with insights into demographic characteristics that you can use to filter out which type of target group is particularly interested in your product.
Another helpful step is the creation of personas. You create a detailed idea of the “ideal customer profile” that you can focus on. Once you have identified your target group, it can also be useful to carry out segmentation in order to define specific subgroups and thus conduct even more targeted marketing.
Addressing your target group precisely not only increases brand relevance, but also ensures that your brand is not seen as something “for all”, but as “especially made for me ”. This leads to sustainable growth, as a targeted strategy is less susceptible to market fluctuation. In the end, it's not about reaching every person with your idea, but the right ones.
Methods for creativity and innovation
Constant creativity and innovation is challenging, but not impossible. Especially now, in a world that thrives on digitalization, it is important that companies do not stop learning, try out new approaches and reinvent themselves if necessary. There are helpful methods and strategies that can facilitate the creative process. One proven method that is frequently used is regular innovation sprints. These focus on developing quick and targeted solutions to specific questions or problems. The process begins with the formulation of a clear question or the breakdown of a problem into its essential components. A multidisciplinary team is then put together so that different perspectives can be taken into account. In addition, a fixed and appropriate time frame is set to ensure that the work is structured and efficient. The aim is to present a tangible result at the end of this innovation sprint, such as a prototype or a test strategy. This method is often used in the development of apps or games, for example. Compared to unstructured brainstorming, which is not always effective, a clear plan with a fixed time limit offers significantly more potential for success.
Another tool for promoting innovation can be internal hackathons. These are events where teams work on creative solutions within a limited period of time (usually no longer than one or two days). Hackathons encourage friendly competition and thus create space for creative ideas. Employees are allowed to experiment without fear of making mistakes. This kind of fear-free atmosphere stimulates creativity and ultimately offers the company new perspectives for potential products or features.
In addition to these approaches, agile working methods such as SCRUM are particularly helpful in promoting dynamic and goal-oriented work. This relies on self-organization and teamwork, which are structured by clear target sections known as “sprints”. Each sprint has a specific goal, which makes progress transparent and measurable.
Social Media
Social media has become an integral part of today's digital working world. It's much more than just getting likes, shares and comments. Social media is a powerful tool that helps to expand your reach, strengthen your company's brand and grow continuously.
A strong digital presence has become essential. Customers inform themselves online, compare offers or search for authentic brands with which they can identify. It is therefore advantageous to increase your reach on social media platforms. These include LinkedIn and Instagram in particular, but TikTok and Facebook also offer opportunities to reach many people. It is crucial to clearly define your target group, as this is the only way to find out which platforms are most suitable for marketing your company. There are a number of tools to ensure this, including the aforementioned option of creating personas.
Through social networks, it is possible to build trust by engaging in consistent branding and regularly sharing relevant content. At the same time, social media encourages interaction with the target group, for example through comment columns or direct messages. Open and friendly communication, especially when it comes to questions or suggestions for improvement, strengthens customer loyalty and shows that you take the opinions of your community seriously. Many customers use social media to get an overall picture of the company and/or its products. That is why it is all the more important to have a reputable platform.
In addition to a presence on social media, a professional website is essential. It serves as a digital business card and conveys seriousness.
Another valuable approach to increasing reach is cooperation. Joint campaigns with other companies open up new target groups and strengthen brand awareness. Both companies benefit from the reach of the partner. At the same time, a successful collaboration signals professionalism and shows which projects you have set up together.
Focus on the customer
Growth begins with a deeper understanding of customer needs. Internalizing and implementing these needs determines the success or failure of a project. Customer orientation means putting yourself in the customer's shoes, predicting their needs and developing products that solve real problems. This involves taking different types of customer needs into account.
First of all, there are emotional needs. Customers are not just looking for products, they are looking for solutions that make their lives easier and more enjoyable. It's about creating comfort, satisfaction and joy. Then there are the latent needs. Customers often don't know exactly what they are looking for until they discover it. Identifying these unconscious needs and proactively developing solutions requires vision and innovation. Finally, there are social needs. Trends and social developments always play a decisive role. Sustainability, social responsibility and individualization are examples of aspects that are increasingly in focus.
Data analysis is essential in order to precisely understand and respond to customer needs. Analyses of online behavior on websites and social media platforms provide valuable insights via analytics. In addition, direct customer feedback, collected via chatbots, customer portals or surveys, offers concrete starting points for improvements.
It is also important to create a consistently positive customer experience. From visiting the website to purchasing a product or concluding a contract. A seamless customer journey strengthens long-term customer relationships and encourages referrals.
The role of corporate culture
Another key factor for corporate success is the corporate culture. It forms the foundation for innovation, motivation and growth. It is important to create an environment in which employees feel comfortable. This encourages creative work and thus the development of new ideas. It is particularly important that interaction is characterized by openness, appreciation and respectful communication. Hierarchies should play a subordinate role, while cooperation on an equal footing should be at the forefront. This does not mean that hierarchies should be completely dismantled or are not useful. Rather, it is about ensuring that employees enjoy and are motivated by their work. A negative communication culture and constant pressure to perform, on the other hand, can impair motivation and therefore the productivity of the entire company.
Employee management is also important. It is important to recognize the individual strengths of employees, provide them with targeted support and create a working environment that enables them to reach their full potential. Flexible working models, such as remote working, hybrid approaches and flexible working hours, can help here. The key to success here lies in trust and clear communication, both on the part of employees and company management.
Training programs, particularly in digital skills, are also useful. Depending on the orientation of the company, it may make sense to specifically promote employees in their strengths and offer regular training on relevant topics. This not only supports individual development, but also contributes to the long-term competitiveness of the company.
Best practices - Our own experience
We also started out small. In the beginning, we focused on two central goals: firstly, we wanted to create a new digital pillar for our main company Weiss+Appetito. Secondly, we wanted to support the business case for smart meters and replace analog processes with digital ones.
However, implementing this project in the household sector proved to be a challenge, as nobody wanted to bear the costs. That's why we started looking specifically for areas of application where the benefits were immediately tangible. This is how we came up with the use of smart meters in electromobility, particularly for the digitalization of non-intelligent charging stations. We also introduced the concept for other previously non-digital solutions. One specific example from this early period is the conversion of a classic coin-operated machine at vacuum cleaner stations. By using smart meter technology in combination with an app, we were able to fully digitize the machine and thus create added value.
Driven by these successful initial projects, we asked ourselves which other analog processes could be digitally transformed that had previously received little attention. These considerations ultimately led to the idea of LiveLocker®. With the development of this solution, we were faced with new challenges that required us to expand our team from two to ten employees. At the same time, we established an agile team structure and used the SCRUM method for our software development at an early stage, which we still use successfully today.
Another key success factor is our continuous investment in further training. We promote flexible learning via digital platforms and have created a space with the internal “Tech Time” format in which a team member presents and explains new topics once a month.
One decisive advantage that sets us apart from many others is our flexible and agile way of working. Ideas that arise today can become reality in just a few days. This speed enables us to respond to customer requests immediately. We also deliberately avoid rigid structures, as our processes are designed to promote creative “out of the box” thinking. In this way, we create space for innovative approaches and perspectives. In addition, everyone contributes to solutions because we have a working culture of flat hierarchies. This openness to different points of view not only increases the quality of our results, but also means that every team member sees themselves as part of a valuable whole.
