This type of charging is often used at home or at public charging stations. DC (Direct Current) charging refers to charging with direct current, which allows electric vehicles to be charged particularly quickly. Battery technology is always DC. During AC charging, the car converts the AC current to DC using a converter inside the vehicle. During DC charging, the conversion takes place at the charging station itself, which allows for the transmission of much more power.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>BMS (Battery Management System)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The battery management system is an electronic system that monitors and protects the battery. It monitors temperature, state of charge, and safety in the car.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Load management<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Load management refers to the intelligent control of multiple charging points to ensure optimal use of available grid capacity. The available power is optimally distributed among the devices and, if necessary, prioritized.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Backend system<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A backend system is a digital platform used to manage all processes involved in operating a charging station. It analyzes data and provides a real-time overview of the system's status.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>OCPP is an open communication standard between charging stations and a central management system, such as a backend system. OCPP ensures vendor independence, better scalability, and the integration of charging points into large charging networks. The standard version is OCPP 1.6, but versions OCPP 2.0.1 and 2.1 are already available.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>EMS (Energy Management System)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>EMS is software for the intelligent control of energy consumption and power flows. The system is designed to analyze and control energy flows in order to reduce energy consumption through improved efficiency. An energy management system can be viewed as an extension of the load management system, as it can take into account additional components beyond individual consumers. These include, for example, photovoltaic systems, battery storage, or the public power grid. The EMS can coordinate the various components and utilize them in a targeted manner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>CSS (Combined Charging System)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CSS is a fast-charging standard for electric vehicles used throughout Europe. It combines AC and DC charging in a single connector system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Type 2 for AC charging plugs<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Type 2 charging plug is the established standard in Europe for AC charging. It is primarily used with wall boxes and public AC charging stations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Recuperation<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recuperation is a system designed to recover energy. During braking, energy is fed back into the battery. Kinetic energy is converted into electrical energy in the process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Smart Charging<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Smart Charging refers to \u201cintelligent charging.\u201d This process automatically optimizes and adjusts electricity consumption and charging times. To do this, data such as electricity prices and grid load are compared, as well as the availability of renewable energy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>V2G\/H (Vehicle-to-Grid\/Home)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>V2G refers to a technology that allows electric vehicles to feed electricity back into the grid. V2H, on the other hand, refers to the use of an electric vehicle as a mobile energy storage system for a building or a home.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Peak Shaving<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Peak shaving is a method for reducing electricity consumption peaks through intelligent load distribution. It is also known as \u201cpeak load reduction\u201d and is a form of load management in which electricity consumption is reduced during peak hours to alleviate the strain on the grid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>HPC charging<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HPC charging refers to ultra-fast charging with a very high charging power, which often exceeds 150 kW.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Bidirectional charging<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bidirectional charging is a technology that allows energy to flow in both directions, that is, from the grid to the vehicle and back again.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Charging station<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A charging station is a central location with multiple fast-charging points for electric vehicles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Smart Grid<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cSmart Grid\u201d refers to an intelligent power grid that enables digital communication between energy producers and consumers. To achieve this, power generation, storage, and consumption are coordinated in real time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Plug &amp; Charge<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Plug &amp; Charge is an automatic authentication process between vehicles and charging stations that does not require an app or charging card. It is required by law for new charging stations and will shape the future of charging (see ISO 15118).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>LSV (Charging Station Regulation)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The LSV is a regulatory framework established by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy for publicly accessible charging infrastructure. Its purpose is to ensure that publicly accessible charging points meet minimum technical requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>AFIR<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>AFIR is an EU regulation that establishes uniform requirements across Europe for the expansion of publicly accessible charging infrastructure. The goal is to create a comprehensive and user-friendly charging infrastructure throughout the EU. This is intended to make it easy to use electric vehicles even when traveling across borders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>C-rate<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The C-rate is a metric for a battery\u2019s charging and discharging speed relative to its capacity. For example, a C-rate of 1C means that a battery can be fully charged or discharged within one hour. To calculate the C-rate, divide the charging\/discharging current by the rated capacity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>kW\/kWh<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>kW (kilowatt) describes electrical power, i.e., how much energy is transmitted or used per unit of time.<\/li>\n<li>kWh (kilowatt-hours) describes a quantity of energy. In the case of electric cars, it indicates, among other things, how much energy the battery can store. The electricity consumption of an electric car is expressed in kWh per 100 kilometers.<\/li>\n<li>AC power ranges from 4 to 22 kW, and DC power ranges from 50 to 400 kW. The battery capacities of electric cars range from 30 to 80+ kWh, and their energy consumption ranges from 15 to 25 kWh per 100 km.<\/li>\n<li>This can be illustrated with a simple calculation: With a battery capacity of 80 kWh and a consumption rate of 20 kWh per 100 km, the electric car has a range of 400 km.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Charging curve<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The charging curve shows how an electric car's charging power changes during a charging session. With DC charging, various manufacturers limit charging power to specific levels under certain conditions, such as temperature or battery level. With AC charging, on the other hand, the charging power remains constant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Roaming<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Roaming allows users to access public charging stations operated by different providers without having to sign a separate contract with each one. Using a charging card or an app, users can access a wide variety of charging stations. The charging process is handled by the systems, and the customer is billed by their respective service provider.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Ad-hoc charging<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ad-hoc charging means that an electric car can be charged spontaneously at a publicly accessible charging station without a prior charging contract or registration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Equally important are terms and abbreviations related to digital locker systems. This helps minimize security risks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>RFID<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>RFID stands for \u201cRadio Frequency Identification\u201d and is a technology for contactless identification using radio chips or cards. It refers to an electronic locking system in which the locks are opened using radio technology. Data is transmitted wirelessly between the transponder and the door lock.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>NFC<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>NFC stands for \u201cNear Field Communication\u201d and enables contactless communication between devices over short distances; it is a specialized form of RFID. Digital key systems, for example, use NFC for secure authentication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Encryption<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Encryption is a security measure used to protect data from unauthorized access. Encryption is used everywhere in our daily digital lives, for example, when communicating with a website accessed via HTTPS, or when data is stored in the cloud to prevent unauthorized access.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>IoT (Internet of Things)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Internet of Things (IoT) involves connecting smart devices via the Internet. These devices can communicate with one another and thus exchange data.
